More about the Surf City Voice
SurfCityVoice.Substack is derived from the Surf City Voice, a local investigative news blog I started in 2010 that was in turn derived from the OC Voice, a print newspaper that I co-owned and edited from 2006 - 2009.
Through those two publications I have reported extensively on transparency in local government, including a special focus on water-management issues such as the proposed Huntington Beach $1 billion Poseidon ocean desalination plant, and Orange County’s COVID-19 response efforts.
Thanks in part to a small but helpful grant from the Press Freedom Defense Fund (First Look Media Works, publisher of the Intercept) I am expanding my journalism platform to include San Diego County and moving it to substack.
